Very often in the world of perfumery niche or author we can be very infatuated to find contemporary brands and perfumes. This is normal. It is always up to us to discover contemporary brands and creations. We want to see and, above all, smell the latest. But don’t forget that there are some very famous and incredibly interesting brands that have sometimes been creating perfumes for many decades or even centuries
To think that everyone wants to wear just something modern or the latest is a big mistake. Just as there are individuals who may have a passion for rather the innovative and contemporary perfumes there are also many people who love classic style perfumes. I am of the opinion that the sincerely great perfume lovers habitually have an important appreciation and respect for both the contemporary perfumes and the classics. I believe that just as one cannot correctly understand one’s present without having knowledge about one’s history/past, one cannot truly understand a contemporary perfume without knowing anything at all about the classical world of perfumery. And, I think it is important to emphasize that it is not only older individuals who like classic-style perfumes.
A young person can be very passionate about classical style perfumes just as an older person can be extremely avid for the contemporary. Each person is a world in and of themselves and for this very reason one must offer a vast variety of perfumes. The modern, the classic, the strong, the subtle etc. etc. In today’s blog we want to pay a small tribute to the classic world of perfumes. We are going to travel to Italy to the year 1871. The year the brilliant brand Acqua di Biella was created.
Acqua di Biella, real history since 1871. An outstanding exponent of the past and present of the great
Italian perfumery, Acqua di Biella is synonymous with tradition, refinement and quality. It is attractive to people who are genuine, refined and dynamic and who appreciate quality and harmony. Acqua di Biella has always been an expression of contemporary style and class, based on quality, purity and meticulous attention to detail.
In 1871 the Reale Manifattura Luigi Cantono was founded in Biella. In 1878 Acqua di Biella was awarded the coat of arms of the Savoia family, an honour that was only awarded to the suppliers of the Royal House of Savoia.
The House of Savoy (in Italian: Casa Savoia ) is a royal family that was established in 1003 in the historic region of Savoy . Through gradual expansion, the family grew in power from governing a small county in the Alps in northwestern Italy to the absolute dominion of the kingdom of Sicily in 1713 to 1720 (exchanged for Sardinia). Through its minor branch, the House of Savoy-Carignano, it led the unification of Italy in 1861 and governed the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1946 and, briefly, the Kingdom of Spain in the 19th century. The Savoy kings of Italy were Victor Emmanuel II, Umberto I, Victor Emmanuel III and Umberto II. The last monarch ruled for a few weeks before being deposed after the Constitutional Referendum of 1946, after which the Italian Republic was proclaimed.
The production of the legendary Acqua di Biella has continued uninterruptedly from 1871 to the present day with the loving devotion of four generations of the same family. Acqua di Biella N° 1 was created in 1871 from the conventual formulas of the 18th century. Since then, the production of the ancient fragrance that combines the delicate scent of alpine flowers with the exuberant essences of Mediterranean flora has not changed and, with numerous awards and medals obtained in Italy and abroad, Acqua di Biella N° 1 has been an ever-present example of the best of Italian perfumery since 1871. Among its many admirers are royalty, aristocrats, men of culture and talented artists. New fragrances have been added that are distinguished by the same quality standards that attest to a tradition of perfumery in the best Italian style to complement Acqua di Biella No. 1. One of these brilliant fragrances is Bursch.
Bursch de Acqua di Biella, evocative, clear and warm, takes its name from an ancient Biella valley where the ancestral relationship between man and nature has remained unchanged for millennia. Bursch wonderfully represents the continuity of tradition, the restoration of ancient values and contemporary sensibility, which distinguishes the brand and reflects the personality of Chiara Cantono, current leader of the brand.
Great-granddaughter of Luigi Cantono, who in 1871 invented the colony Acqua di Biella in her Regia Manifattura, is in love with her native land, and is deeply linked to the memories of her childhood spent in that place full of traditions. Chiara Cantono decided to devote herself professionally to the continuation of the family brand. Chiara Cantono has taken the brand to another level by creating innovative products, characterised by the use of materials and technologies with low environmental impact, in full recognition of the connection that has always linked man with nature.
The memory of dear gentlemen friends who came regularly to her family’s home- strong, confident and versatile men who were capable of scaling mountains one day and wear a tuxedo to an elegant ball the next are intertwined with the images of similar people who today form part of her private and professional life. The scenery has changed, the old house and the large rooms have been replaced by ultra-modern professional offices, but the fascination of the stories is still accompanied by a scent of cigars and cognac.
Bursch is dedicated to these special men who share a deep love for quality of life, who are able to admire the power of rough nature, who appreciate the warmth of a family home but who are also open to the challenges of a constantly changing world.
A short, sharp name that embodies the idea of self-confidence and full mastery of emotions. Strong and genuine, brilliant and endowed with an unusual personality, the man who chooses Bursch de Acqua di Biella has style and character, behaves naturally and is surrounded by a fascinating aura of humor and charm.
